Coordination FAIL!

There are a few students of mine who obviously put an immense amount of planning into their wardrobe. One young lady- who is invariably late to class- is almost always impeccable.

Yesterday she came in several minutes late, as usual. She was wearing a light gray sweater and brown tights. I looked at her, and then marched her up to the office to confirm my suspicions that she was not dress-code compliant. It was a bit later when I realized that I probably would not have thought about it, if she had worn correctly coordinated black tights!

So, if you have any questions: light grey is not a good match with brown.

Obama Lights it Up

The Barack has decided that marijuana should be left to state discretion. I guess even a blind squirrel gets a nut every now and then.

BOHICA

Yup, Democrats- the Barack in particular- are up to their old tricks. They want another Assault Weapons Ban.

The ironic thing is complaints of weapons used against Mexican police- when they mention weapons that will not be affected by the ban. Automatic weapons? Grenade launchers? Have nothing to do with the ban. Hypocrites, of course.

Deeds

What did you do today? I worked on getting better, staying home and getting 11 hours or so of sleep. I watched a silly Marky-Mark movie and graded a few papers.

This guy caught a 770-lb fish with a rod and reel. And then kissed her, said "Steve Irwin was a *****!" and put her back in the water. Or so I hear.

Battleground God

Almost three years ago, I encountered Battleground God. I danced my way through the spiritual and philosophical maze without a hitch, showing internal thought processes that the folks at PhilosphersNet found flawless.

Maybe because it's late and I'm tired, or maybe it's something else, but I don't seem to be able to dodge the bullets tonight...

This Just In

The Barack has concluded that oil made from tar sands can be clean, despite the fact that it's still oil and costs 3x as much. Expect more progressive, ultra-logical thinking in the remaining four years...

This is the First

One of my students was briefly in class at the beginning of last semester. I then didn't see him for most of the semester, and finally learned that he had cancer. I've been giving assignments to one of the counselors to be forwarded to him.

Today that counselor told me my student's battle with cancer is over.

He was only in 10th grade.

Some things "should" not happen. Parents should not bury their children. And, as annoying as so many of the rude little bastards are, I don't want to lose any more this way. I guess this is life, and most certainly, it is death.

The Heroic Me

Thanks to Phlegm and Atomic Nerds, readers can get a better gestalt of what I actually look like.

The resemblance is uncanny, really.

Happy Valentine's Day

I suppose it's no surprise that I feel as least as chipper as the Grinch at Christmas. And that's all I have to say about that.

In other news, I'm still quite sick. I took my first day off of work earlier in the week, and today kept falling asleep in the middle of the afternoon, as I tried to work at the computer.

But like Howard Jones said...

You know, it's amazing how the things people think are cool change over time.

Coal vs. Oil

Ford will roll out an electric van next year, according to the Wall Street Journal. The Transit Connect has a claimed 100 mile per charge range.

Since the U.S. primarily gets its electricity from coal, I would be interested in seeing the relative environmental impact of the coal needed to run x electric vehicles, when compared to the amount of gas needed to run those vehicles for the same distance.

A worksheet on the Gilded Age is up on The History of US. Test your knowledge of this important time period.
